WAO
A moment to unwind in the city.
At WAO, a quiet, wood-accented café in Kanamachi, guests can linger over seasonal fruit vacherins, crisp tarts, and fragrant pots of tea.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Assembled with airy restraint inside a glass, the vacherin—layering crisp meringue, gelato, and jellies—stands as WAO’s signature showcase for the changing seasons. The components shift with the fruit of the calendar, from the brisk acidity of citrus to the deep sweetness of chestnut, matching delicate meringue crunches against smooth creams with every spoonful.
Baked goods and tarts merit equal attention. Firmly baked sablé crusts yield with a satisfying snap under the knife, providing a fragrant foundation for mascarpone and seasonal fruit. From thick, rustic carrot cakes to scone sets served with jam and clotted cream, the pastry selection rewards unhurried appreciation.
Tea selections alongside dessert include Campbell's Perfect Tea served straight, milk tea accompanied by warm milk, and seasonal herbal infusions. Lightly roasted coffee brewed with Bicycle Coffee beans and café au lait crowned with fine milk foam round out the drink offerings, pairing naturally with each sweet course.
Inside, wooden furnishings lend warmth to a compact dining room of around 7 tables. The setting suits solo visitors or pairs seeking a calm environment to savour pastries, making advance table reservations advisable for securing seasonal items. Takeaway baked goods such as cookies are also available at the counter, handy for gifts or home enjoyment.
